LDAP is termed as a lightweight directory access protocol and it is a software protocol for maintaining disturbed directories information in an organization & easy to query manner. It can store data in the way of records that contain a set of attributes and attributes work like a database. LDAP gives directories management services to the system as the data record purpose in a hierarchical structure. It can use some persistent connections for communication with the directories. Moreover, many new HTTP based protocols use short-lived connections, but LDAP connection is run for many hours or days even if it is longer than HTTP connections.

Some advantages of LDAP protocol:

  • The LDAP protocol is run on multiple independent directories.
  • It works on TCP/IP and SSL networks directly.
  • It is an open-source directory protocol with good architecture.
  • It is automatically updated as much easier than DNS.
