The principle of least privilege (POLP) is a fantastic security philosophy that argues that people, networks, devices, and workloads should only have the access they need to do their job.

Furthermore, privileged access management also deals with the security methods and technology that are necessary to secure privileged accounts. As a result, while PAM facilitates some of the elements required to apply the Principle of Least Privileged it is not just technological.

Privileged access management gives administrators the automation and reporting they need to manage and oversee accounts with more capabilities than a typical user.

Organizations, on the other hand, have access to various information security techniques that may be used to enforce the concept of least privileged. For example role based access control across all systems.

Other ways to enforce the concept of least privileged access include segmenting and protecting networks with VLANs and ensuring users are not local administrators on corporate workstations.
