The address and port of a directory server, the DN of an entry within that server, or the conditions for conducting a search within that server can all be encapsulated in an LDAP URL. LDAP URLs are used by some LDAP client APIs to provide information about a directory server to which a connection should be made or the properties of a search to be processed. They can also be used to describe a dynamic group and are used by certain directory servers to target entries or sets of entries in access control rules.
