Is LDAP and Active Directory the same?

LDAP and active directory are not the same thing, both have different functions. LDAP is a kind of security system or programming language and active directory is the hierarchical structure of the server. The use of LDAP is to provide simple language and transfer into the simple user format message and then send it to the client. It is an important and sensitive step of the authentication process but it doesn’t provide the underlying infrastructure for directory services such as Active directory delivery.
